IT’S NOT THAT FAR FROM RATHMULLAN TO MALAWI – WITH A BIG HEART!

It may be a long way from Donegal but the people of Rathmullan are doing their bit to help the less-well-off in Malawi.407803_121344488035052_645601914_n

The Rathmullan to Malawi Habitat group are a group of individuals of all ages from the community of Rathmullan and the surrounding area who are heading to Malawi in the first week of August 2013 to build houses for the poor as part of the Habitat for Humanity group.

They will go to an isolated village in the south of the country for two weeks to build houses for those who live in primitive conditions.

There are approx. 15 members going and they are currently running many fundraising events in and around the Rathmullan area.

Their fundraising began at the start of December when the Christmas tree in Rathmullan was officially lit up. Baubles were sold in the local shops and people could write their family name or a loved ones name on them and then hang it on the tree.

The official turn on of the lights was held on the first of December. Carols were sung and Santa arrived to switch on the lights, putting everyone in the Christmas spirit!

They also benefited from the (very cold) New Year’s Day swim in Rathmullan which had a very large turnout.

A spokesperson for the group, Sarah Sheridan said that the public have been very supportive of the group and their help is very much appreciated.

Many fundraisers have been organised for the coming months such as a massive game of Twister in a local school, a “Take me Out” night, a variety concert among many others.

Next Fundraiser: We will be holding a table quiz in the Beachcomber Bar Rathmullan on Friday the 25th of January at 9pm and all are welcome.

Further details of the table quiz and others can be found on our blog. Your generousity is very much appreciated at this time and you can keep updated at: www.facebook.com/RathmullanMalawi and also on our blog www.rathmullanmalawi.wordpress.com.
