The vehicles will be delivered over the next few weeks as funding for the upgrades is released.
The news means that extra Traffic Corps patrols can take place across the county and run-down vehicles replaced.
Reports that a drugs raid had to be postponed due to the lack of police cars have been dismissed as “complete rubbish.”
A Garda spokesman said: “This is simply not true. No such incident took place.”
However sources in the organisation have confirmed that several vehicles are no longer fit for purpose.
The front passenger door of one patrol car being used in Finn Valley can no longer open and Gardai have been seen exiting the vehicle via the driver’s door.
“Some of the vehicles we have are a joke,” one Garda told us today.
“But we would never stop an operation because of that; we’d use the resources available to do it.
“We could always do with more vehicles but the good news is new vehicles are being provided in the next couple of months.”
