Downtown Cup Group C

Downtown United 2 Ramelton Mariners 0

This game played at Rabs Park Kerrykeel was a very tight entertaining match with Downtown coming away with three points in group C of The Downtown Cup. Both teams started brightly creating half chances early on but it was Downtown who got in front on fifteen minutes when Nial Bonner shot home from inside the box after a good cross from Steven Toye. Downtown with much of the play went close again when Toye shot from the edge of the box, just skimmed the crossbar. As the half wore on Mariners came back into it and went close on a couple of occasions. On thirty five minutes Downtown added their second Bonner was upended on the edge of the box.Up stepped Michael Doherty who bent the free kick around the wall into the bottom corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. The second half continued as the first with both teams playing some entertaining football. Ramelton Mariners had most of the possession pressing hard looking for the way back into the game but Downtown stood firm with Charlie Creevy and Michael Doherty in control in the centre of midfield and Gio Peoples and Redmond Doherty marshalling the back line well. Best for Downtown ; Gio Peoples, Michael Doherty, Niall Bonner Beat for Ramelton : Team Performances:
