Donegal is on standby for heavy falls of snow tonight.
There has already been falls of snow in many parts of the county including Glenties, Ardara and at the back of Errigal Road (pictured).
Roads across Donegal have been pre-gritted this afternoon at 4.30pm and will be gritted again if snow or heavy frost forms.
A spokesman for Donegal County Council say they will have to wait and see if increased levels of snow materialise.
The council also has 21 of its truck mounted with snow ploughs to keep roads open if heavy falls of snow happen.
“There are forecasts for up to 6cms of snow but we simply don’t know. Our gritters are out this afternoon and will be on standby this evening.
“If snow materialises then we will grit the roads and keep them open,” said the spoeksman.
The Road Safety Authority has warned that there will be blizzard-like conditions in parts of Ulster including Donegal.
They have advised motorists to take extra care as hazardous conditions are forecast.
Gardai have also asked people to call in on elderly neighbours during the cold snap which is forecast to last into next week.
