A 20 year old Letterkenny man has been remanded in custody charged in connection with a burglary at the home of a pensioner in Kilmacrennan in the early hours of Friday morning last.

Matthew Lafferty (pictured right) appeared at a special sitting of Sligo District Court this evening.

He was charged with criminal damage and also breaking and entering at an address at Kilmacrennan on January 18th.

Lafferty, 20, who is originally from Letterkenny but he had an address at Ballyheerin, Kilmacrennan, applied for bail.

However Judge Kevin Kilraine refused bail due to the accused man’s bail history and the seriousness of the charge.

The court was also told that further charges may be pending and that Garda enquiries are continuing.

Lafferty will appear again at Letterkenny District Court again on Monday.
