Reversed to Culdaff the Caratra side started well and they went close on 2minutes when a corner broke to Conor O Brien but his close range effort deflected off a defender and over the bar.Ilies replied and took the lead minute s later when a long free kick was not collected by Keeper McLaughlin allowing Niall McDaid to glance the ball into an empty net from close range.Illies then had two glorious chances within a minute to double their lead when McDaid volleyed inches wide before Stephen McHug got on the end of a Gavin Doherty cross but somehow headed wide from point blank range.Culdaff replied and they should have levelled on 26 minutes after O Brien broke on the left and his pinpoint cross found Gary Farren who sidefooted wide from four yards. On 40 minutes O Brien beat a defender inside the area and advanced along the end line to square to Eugene McLaughlin but his effort was deflected wide.On the stroke of half time they got back on terms whne Kevin Ruddy’s long ball saw Mclaughlin challenge defenders and goalkeeper Graham Doherty on the egde of the area and the ball broke kindly for McLaughlin to turn and steer the ball into an empty net. But Illies regained their lead in the opening minute of the second period when a needless handball afforded them a penalty which McHugh expertly tucked away to the top left hand corner. They went close again midway through the half when Gavin Doherty’s cross cum shot from the left glanced off the face of the bar before being cleared.Culdaff got back on terms on 72 minutes when Farren robbed a defender and released Dermot Diver who rounded the keeper and slotted home.Substitute Derek Doherty then had a snapshot just over the bar while at the other end Aiden Doherty had a fine shot on the run turned behind by Darragh McLaughlin.Culdaff finished strong with Derek Doherty breaking clear on the left before seeing his attempted lob clawed away by Doherty.Culdaff struck for the winner on 88 minutes when substitute David O Connor raced onto a through ball from Diver and when his low cross was parried Derek Doherty was on hand to tap the ball home.In injury time Culdaff sealed it when O Brien fed Dean O Connor on the right and his low cross found Eugene Mclaughlin to slot home at the back post.
In an early chance for the visitos Declan McGonagle found space in the area but his effort was well saved by Leo McColgan in the home goal. Michael Byrne then advanced into the Cockhill area but from a tight angle his effort found the side netting.Cockhill grew more into the game and on 29 minutes Derek Doherty’s cross found Declan Kearney but his volley flew straight at Ritchie Cunningham in the Carn goal. They took the lead before the interval when Doherty surged into the area and pulled the ball back for Garbhan Friel to slot home from ten yards.Carn increased the tempo on the resumption with Matthew Byrne seeing his free from twenty five yards drift just wide.Cockhill replied and Daniel Doherty picked out Friel with a superb cross but from six yards he failed to hit the target. The visitors got on top then and levelled on 71 minutes after Michael Byrne’s free kick from the edge of the area took a wicked deflection on its way past McColgan.Minutes later Daniel Mclaughlin burst into the area and when his initial effort came off the post Michael Byrne was on hand to drill the ball home.Cockhill tried to get back on terms but both Daniel Doherty and Darragh McDermott were off target with long range efforts.Carn sealed the points in the final minute when a defensive error allowed Matthew McLaughlin to race clear and slot low past McColgan.
This result definitely puts a severe dent in Moville’s title charge but in the end it could have gone either way.Moville were first to show after Nigel McMonagle fed Tony Boyce on the right but his cross shot was well saved by Charlie Carlin.Aileach replied and took the lead on 18 minutes when Anthony Doherty collected a Conor Harkin pass before beating two defenders and firing low past Ralph Bredin from fifteen yards.Moville tried to hit back before the interval and were out of luck when Sean Doherty advanced and unleashed a shot which was deflected onto the post before being cleared. After a period of sustained pressure they did equalise on 50 minutes when McMonagle’s effort deflected off a defender and looped over the stranded Carlin.Alan Orr then unleashed a brilliant twenty five yards strike which Carlin brilliantly tipped onto the post and wide. Just after the hour Moville took the lead when McMonagle fired a penalty low to the right of Carlin after Dermot Harkin had been felled in the area. But Aileach regrouped and got back on terms on 75 minutes when Doherty advanced on the left and crossed for Darren McMonagle to fire low past Maurice McGeady from fifteen yards.Moville almost snatched the winner in the last minute after Raymond Campbell saw his header from a corner cleared off the line by James Gillespie.
This was a big result for the league leaders as they search for a first ever premier division title and they got a perfect start when they opened the scoring in the 4th minute.Terence Doherty flicked the ball on for Patrick McDermott to race through and fire low past Michael McCole from ten yards.Chances in the first half were few and certainly not clearcut but Redcastle replied with Liam Davenport crossing for Terry McColgan who headed over the bar.Glengad replied before the break when John G McDermott fed Doherty but he fired just wide. The home side had the first goal attempt of the second period when Davenports effort was turned around the post by Martin McLaughlin.Glengad hit back and doubled their lead after 55 minutes when John McDaid beat a defender on the left and crossed for John G McDermott to fire past McCole from ten yards. At the other end Gary Colleet crossed for McColgan but his effort was well saved by McLaughlin.Glengad sealed the game with two late goals when John G McLaughlin converted McDaid’s cross before the unmarked Charlie Byrne fired home from close range after Mclaughlin had picked him out.
