Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s preparations for their Colleges & Universities Football League quarter-final against DCU have been boosted by the news that Finn Harps keeper Ciaran Gallagher and striker Jordan Duffy as well as Derry City midfielder Barry McNamee have been made available by their respective club managers Peter Hutton and Declan Devine for the clash on the LYIT campus on Wednesday.

The news will be welcomed by Niall McGonagle`s team whom are looking to reach the semi-final stage of the competition for the second time in as many years.

Said Niall: “Peter Hutton was extremely helpful when I spoke to him in regard to Ciaran and Jordan, he seems genuinely eager to strengthen the link between the LYIT and Finn Harps which was initiated at the beginning of the year, Declan Devine was also understanding about Barry so I appreciated that from both managers.”

LYIT qualified for the quarter-final stage by virtue of winning the Ulster Universities CUFL title losing to UUJ in the first match before recovering by beating Queens University, Belfast Metropolitan and Magee University to win the title on the head to head rule over Belfast Metropolitan after finishing level on points and goal difference.

LYIT have been boosted by a good influx of first year talent and have had impressive displays from Harps youngsters Ryan Curran, Ryan Toland and Jordan Duffy as well as recent Derry City signing Anthony Appiah formerely of Bonagee United. The experience for LYIT will come in the form of Letterkenny Rovers Josh Mailey and Luke O Farrell who played for Fanad United last season and of course Ciaran Gallagher and Barry McNamee. Lee McMonagle who starred for St Eunans GAA team on their way to lifting the Dr. Maguire Cup this past season has also joined the squad and will compete for a starting spot at centre-half.

After Wednesdays game LYIT will then hit the road the following week as they face a tricky cup 2nd round clash away to Cork Institute of Technology on Wednesday February 6th.

Kick off on the LYIT Campus this Wednesday is 3pm and Mr. Stephen Toner will be the match official.
