There is traffic gridlock in Letterkenny this morning as icy roads cause havoc.gritter letterkenny

The road from Kilmacrennan to Letterkenny is backed up with some motorists claiming they have been in their vehicles for more than 45 minutes.

Commuters claim the road is like a sheet of ice.

One motorist said “It took me an hour and five minutes to get from Coolboy into Letterkenny – that usually takes me ten minutes or less.

“I just don’t know what was going on but there is a lot of ice around.”

It is understood that although roads were treated overnight, the froze again.

Council gritters are working around the clock to spread grit on the roads as temperatures battle to get above freezing.

There are reports of other dangerous stretches of road outside Ballybofey, Donegal Town and Lifford.

Donegal County Council have issued a warning on their weather website but have stated that all their salters are out.
