LYIT MAKE QUARTER FINALS OF CFAI CUP

Letterkenny I.T. secured a place in the quarter finals of the CFAI Cup today with a win over Cork Institute of Technology.LYIT soccer team

The team, with manager Niall McGonagle and Tommy Harkin, travelled to Cork on Tuesday for the meeting of two of the best regarded teams in the competition.

A goal on 14 minutes from Luke O’ Farrell put Letterkenny on top in what was for the most part a balanced first half which kicked off at 12.00.

Jordan Duffy was once again the supplier of a perfect cross which found O’ Farrell advancing with speed to meet the ball on the six yard line and finish with a goal that proved decisive in this clash.

Attacking options were plentiful for Letterkenny with both Jordan Duffy and Anthony Oppiah providing good wing play and a midfield three of Ryan Bradley, Oisin Grant and Ryan Toland offering support to the attack at every opportunity.

The team adopted a 4-3-3 formation from the kick off and sustained their energy right through the second half, where, it must be said, the opposition pressed hard in the hope of the equaliser. Good performances from O’ Farrell, Sean Black , the Letterkenny I.T. goalkeeper and Oisin Grant proved too much for the Cork I.T. men on this occasion.

LYIT Team: S. Black, D. Ramsey, J. Logue, J. Mailey, A. Harley. R. Bradley, O. Grant, R. Toland, J. Duffy, L. O’Farrell, A. Oppiah, (Subs used, K. Doran for Oppiah)
