Last weekend proved to be a very successful weekend for the club on a number of fronts. On Saturday there are 20 athletes entered for the Ulster Indoor Championships in Magherafelt. There was great performances from all and notable medal winners on the day were gold medal for Casey McGarvey, Annagry in the U-12 Shot Putt . Gold medal for Saoirse Bonner, Keadue in the U-13 Shot Putt. Silver medal for Tara Harley, Braade in the U-14 Shot Putt. Bronze medal for Caoimhe Boyle, Mullaghduff in the U-14 High Jump. Silver medal for Anna Sweeney, Dungloe in the U-17 Shot Putt. Bronze Medal for Nicole Boyle in the U-17 Shot Putt. At the National Masters Indoor Championships in Aathlone, there was double Gold for Aidan Gillespie. Aidan won Gold in the Long Jump with 5.79m and later followed it up with gold in the high jump in the V2 category.
Our next upcoming 5k in the Spring Series is planned for this Sunday 17th February at 11:45 in Carrickfinn with Registration in the Donegal Airport. There will also be a 1k for Primary School kids. Entry 5 euro for 5k and 2 euro for 1k. Walkers, joggers, runners all welcome. Flat course.
Great turnouts last week at the Fit4Life session and the adult’s session on Thursday night which was very encouraging and great to see. Let’s continue to build on this. New members always welcome.
Overview of training sessions happening within the club at present: Monday: High Jump training in Dungloe gym 5.45 pm for 2002 and older with coach Aidan Gillespie. Monday: Sportshall Athletics in Dungloe gym 6.45 to 7.45 with coaches Aidan Mc Ginley and Ita Gallagher. Wednesday: Juvenile training in Carrickfinn 4pm to 5pm with coaches Brid Doherty and Breege Ward. Wednesday: Fit4Life meeting at the entrance to the pitch at Carrickfinn at 6:30 with coach Elise Gillespie and Sinead Diver. Thursday: Senior Men/Women Speed Session for 5k and endurance runners at 6:30pm at the Gweedore Industrial Estate (Screabán) with coaches Aidan Gillespie and Michael Logue meeting at Euroflex. New members welcome. Friday: Juvenile training in Carrickfinn 4pm to 5pm with coaches Brid Doherty and Mark Nicholas. Friday: Sportshall Athletics in Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair gym 6:45pm to 7:45pm with coaches Aidan Mc Ginley and Timmy Mc Bride.
