EANY CELTIC DO THE DOUBLEU12 Schoolboys League – South Division – Cup Final

In a fiercely contested final, Eany Celtic picked up their second piece of silverware in as many weeks.

The first half was a tense affair and despite having the lion’s share of possession Eany struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities.

On at least two occasions, Dunkineely counterattacks promised to produce something at the other end.

At half time the sides were all square. When play resumed, Eany picked up where they had left off, continuing to dominate with Dunkineely resisting Eany’s efforts to break the deadlock.

Eany’s reward finally came 15 minutes from the end when Jordan Jervis delivered Thomas White’s short corner into the middle of the box.

Despite several attempts by the Dunkineely defence to clear their lines the ball arrived at the feet of Conal McInaw and the Eany forward wasted no time in converting. Dunkineely responded immediately and were unlucky on a number of occasions not to break down the Eany defence but with only 9 minutes remaining Eany put the result beyond doubt.

Darragh Griffin picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and after beating two defenders coolly slotted it past the Dunkineely keeper to score his seventh goal of the season.

The final whistle saw scenes of jubilation in the Eany camp as they added the Cup to their League title.

Divisional Chairperson Ian Curristan congratulated Eany on winning the double and offered a special word of thanks to the Dunkineely players who acquitted themselves so ably on what was a memorable occasion.
