ADULT LEARNER WEEK AT MEVAGH FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE

As part of Adult Learners Week the Mevagh Family Resource Centre, supported by Donegal V.E.C, will be holding events in its Centre in Downings from Monday 25th February – Friday 1st March. The Adult Learners’ Festival is a nationwide celebration of adult learning coordinated by AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation. Check the AONTAS website for other events happening in Donegal. http://www.aontas.com.

 

Creative Writing Workshop

The week of events will begin in Mevagh Family Resource Centre on Monday 25th February with a Creative Writing Workshop taking place from 10am-12pm. In this workshop Margaret Rooney will introduce participants to some useful tips and exercises that will assist them in finding a starting point to creating their own poems or prose.

 

Mevagh Men’s Group

Tuesday the 25th will see the Men’s Group taking place from 8pm-10pm. This group is open to new members and provides a weekly opportunity to mix with other males from the locality with a new activity happening each Tuesday. In the next Men’s Group Michelle Hay, From Mulroy Coast Guard will give a talk entitled Water Conservation.

 

Discussion on Volunteering and Women in Public Life

On Wednesday 27th February women are invited to attend an open discussion hosted by Finola Brennan and Noreen Clancy. Finola will talk about Women’s Voices -what gets them going and what keeps them going in their day-to-day lives. Noreen will speak on her experience on ‘Women in Public Life’ and Volunteering. This will be a inspirational, fun and informative gathering which takes place from 10-11.30am.

 

Social Media Workshop

For those out there with little or no knowledge of how to use Facebook, Skype etc., a training session on Social Media will provide attendees with a better understanding of how to create, share and exchange information via popular social websites like Facebook. This class will take place from 3.30 pm – 4.45 pm on Wednesday the 27th of February.

 

Handcrafting

Always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit? The Craft Group are hosting an open morning on Thursday the 28th of February. This event will introduce participants to knitting, crochet, sewing and simple alterations to clothes. New members are always welcome. The group meet each Thursday 10.30am – 12.30pm.

 

Family Day

A Family Day for children (3-12 years) and parents will be held on Thursday 28th February. For those with younger members of their family there will be Storytelling, in the Mevagh Family Resource Centre Library, for 3-6 year olds from 3pm – 4pm. 7-12 year olds are invited to learn to play Draughts at 3.30pm – 5pm. Explore Computers with Your Child is aimed at guardians & their 7-12 year olds from 5pm – 6pm. Finally, a Medieval History Session will take place for 7-12 year olds from 6pm – 7pm. All family day events are open to Parents, Grandparents, Brothers & Sisters!

 

Busy Bees Parent & Toddler Group

The week of events ends with a Parent & Toddler group meeting from 10.30am to 12 noon on Friday 1st March. Bring your ‘Busy Bees’ and enjoy a morning of fun and games with your child. This is an opportunity to meet and share experiences with other adults.

All of the Adult Learner Weeks activities will have a small fee of €2 and tea and coffee will be served at each event. No booking is necessary but if you would like further information do not hesitate to contact the Mevagh Family Resource Centre on 074 9155055.
