cablesEIRCOM engineers will return to north Inishowen on Wednesday to replace fibre optic cables cut during road works – which cut off thousands of homes and business for two days.

A temporary fix of the issue was carried out yesterday, with further work today.

Worst hit were shops and offices in Carndonagh where everything from bank machines to lotto tills were hit by the black-out.

Eircom put in place a temporary fix to the issue and is now replacing the cable.

“We’re sorry for the disruption which was caused by a third party,” said a spokesman.
