Algaran factory with logoA Donegal company which harvests seaweed and turns it into many sought-after products has been named as a finalist in the AIB Small Business Awards.

Algaran is a small Seaweed Company situated in Kilcar, South West Donegal with a big future if its recent history is anything to go by.

Established in 2004 in the Aran Islands, Co. Galway by Rosaria Piseri and Michael McCloskey, the company moved to Kilcar in 2005.foto rosaria

Rosaria and Micheal, who are the owners, Managers and Directors of the Company, put hard work, long hours, lots of passion for nature, as the main ingredients of the success of the Organic Seaweed Products made by Algaran.

All seaweed is hand harvested from the local shoreline, with the maximum respect for the marine environment. All seaweed are rinsed on the shore and dried at low temperatures to preserve its rich nutritional content.

Analysis is carried out regularly to guarantee absence of pollutants. Some species are used for the production of Natural and Organic Cosmetics, while others are available along with artisan seaweed food produced with the finest Organic Ingredients.Micheal

Among the Seaweed Food products are Biscuits, Jams, Condiments, Dressings, Herbal Teas, Puffed Spelt cakes, Pralines and Seaweed infused in Oils. Algaran is Certified Organic by Organic Trust Ltd.

Algaran Teoranta is one of the six finalists for the SFA Award (Small Business National Award) in the “Outstanding Small Businesses” category.

The winner will be awarded on March 7th 2013. Good Luck Algaran!
