Strabane singer Ryan Dolan can now count on the support of Eurovision Song Contest fans from Donegal when he represents Ireland in the contest in Malmo, Sweden.

Ryan was chosen as the winner of the Late Late Show Eurosong Special last night (FRI).

His song, Only Love Survives, was sitting in second place to the ballad Crashing Down after the jury vote.

But when the vote went to the public across the country, there was only one winner.

Eurovision expert Bill Whelan praised Ryan’s voice and his stage presence and said he has a great chance in Malmo.

And he also reminded viewers that the last time Ireland entered the contest in Malmo, a certain Linda Martin went and won the contest.

Ryan said he was delighted to be representing Ireland.

“I still can’t believe it. There was such strong competition that any of us could have won it.

“I want to do Ireland proud and we will give it our best shot in Sweden,” he said.
