CAN YOU BELIEVE THESE DRESSES WERE MADE FROM JUNK?

jkTHEY are dresses which look as if they came out of a top London fashion house – but they are made entirely from trash!

Four fourth year students from Loreto Community School Milford, Ciara Haley, Kate Haley, Seania Strain and Eilis Mc Clay have made it through to the regional finals of the recycled fashion competition ‘Junk Kouture’.

And this is what they have come up with.

They have designed two dresses called ‘The Fame Game’ and ‘No Glitz Just Glam’. They have been working on the dresses since September and have really pulled it out of the bag this year in terms of design. Both dresses are made out of 100% recycled materials. ‘The Fame Game’ is made out of old computer and television wires. It’s a dark, edgy, modern design. ‘No Glitz Just Glam’ is made out of foam packaging waste. It is the opposite a beautiful, white, glamorous, delicate design.

Now the girls desperately need your help to reach the finals. An online vote will take place from now until midnight on Friday the 1st March. Everyone can vote once per day by going to www.junkkouture.com and using their email address. Make sure you click vote on either:

Gladiator Girl!!!

This junk kouture bad-boy is the best a bad girl can be! Inspired by the ancient Roman gladiators! Inspired by Russell Crowe’s Gladiator performance! And inspired by a gorgeous Mad Max Mel Gibson!

Inspired by men… but only to show the world the power and beauty of a modern seductress gladiator.

The materials used in creation this battledress come from all around the house, from garages and sheds, from the everyday world where we all live and where this kind of exquisite female strength and beauty is hidden. The ingredients include heavy duty plastic used for laying the roads; old leather belts and bags; long-forgotten jewellery and watches that stopped before most of us were even born; bits of old farm machinery, and a creative college of screws and bolts, of feathers, of foam wire and mesh!

We wanted to focus on the old-fashioned man’s world to find our inspiration. And we have created the perfect female battle armour. Beautiful to look at, with incredible strength, created from almost nothing. And how did we add spice to our ingredients? We threw in a dash of Versace’s spring collection 2013 which features a dress that is strong, bold and entices woman to unleash their warrior!

This Junk Kouture creation was inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s magical world of our childhood adventures. Under the duvet Alice in Wonderland’s magical universe was painted in magical colours in all our little heads. And Tim Burton took these magical images from our consciousness and created a cinematic masterpiece of images and colour.

Creating a magical reality from the world of childhood’s imagination was the spark that ignited the desire to make my dreams come to artistic life.

This kind of styles is what drove us into the creativity of Tim Burton’s Alice. The sleeves have too many bows to make sense, and their colours clash and merge and try to outdo each other. And the rainbow ruffle is even bigger and better, even more magical. The zips hold the dress together, suggesting safety… but this safety is only a stepping stone into the deeper world of fashionagination. The modern-art-splattered colours across the bodice into the universe of a teenage child’s world of junk kouture fashion
