DONEGAL VILLAGERS TO HOLD EMERGENCY MEETING AS PUB, SHOP AND GARAGE GO INTO EXAMINERSHIP

CRESSLOUGHA CO Donegal village is to hold an emergency public meeting as the austerity crisis hit home this week.

Lafferty’s Supermarket, the Vivo filling stations and the Corncutter’s Rest in Creeslough all went into examinership this week.

It means the business owners have 100 days protection from their creditors to give them time to re-establish.

A ‘Save Our Village’ campaign has been launched and will meet next Monday evening.

Business owner Danny Lafferty, whose family has been trading in Creeslough since 1906, has met his staff to explain the financial crisis facing the village.

He was forced to close his Hardware store in the village last November.

He says emigration and austerity measures have severely hit the village.

If he is unable to save his businesses, 36 jobs could go in an area already severely hit by the recession.
