MAYOR HELPS EX-SOLDIERS LAUNCH THE 24TH INFANTRY BATTALION ASSOCIATION

24btn launch 1 copyMayor Frank McBrearty has launched the 24th Infantry Battalion Association at the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar.

More than 100 former members joined in the evening to recall decades of military service in locations such as Dunree, Finner, Lifford, Rockhill, Glen Of Imaal and Castlebar.

The FCA has now been stood down to make way for a new Reserve army structure which sees them become E company 28th Bn based from Finner.

Amongst the speakers on the evening that recalled former days and indeed recalled fond memories were Col. Declan O Carroll, Peter Mc Garrigle from Lifford the chair of the new association, Patsy McGonagle the newly installed president, Eugene Mc Cusker from Lifford the PRO, Joint treasurers are Paul Lapsley and Michael Friel with John Quinn from Ballybofey the sectretary.

A message was received from General Conor O Boyle ASS Chief Of Staff Irish Army whose father was a former o/c 24th and a native of Portnoo.
