A cyclist says he is disgusted that nothing has been done by Donegal County Council after he reported the discovery of two dead dogs in a river more than a week ago.

The man was out walking close to Glenveagh National Park last week when he came across the brutal scene.

Two collie dogs had been killed and dumped side-by-side in the River Glasnaseeragh in the townland of Ballybuninabber.

The river runs past the road between Termon and Creeslough.

The man revealed how he went out of his way to contact the council offices in Milford to alert the litter warden to the gruesome discovery.

However a week later the man told Donegal Daily that the dead dogs had still not been removed yesterday (TUES) when he visited the area again.

“I left my phone number and even a call would have been appreciated.

“We received no contact and I think it is poor form that these rotting animals have not been taken away and disposed of.

“I don’t know how they died but the fact that there are two of them, lovely big dogs, makes it very suspicious.

“This is a very scenic area and right beside Glenveagh National Park. You would get a lot of tourists in the area.

“I think we’re sending out the wrong signals that we are simply letting animals rot away in this fashion,” he said.

A spokesman for the council said there had been a breakdown in communications and the litter warden had been trying to locate the dead dogs.

He added that the dogs would now be disposed of immediately.
