A BRILLIANT Donegal student will be spending St Patrick’s weekend in Holland – preparing to take on the rest of the world!

Convoy man Christopher Kilpatrick, a student in the DIT School of Electrical Engineering Systems, will spend St. Patrick’s Day in Rotterdam this year, as a guest of the Dutch National Skills team.

As part of their preparation for World Skills, the Dutch team invites a small number of countries to partake in this Skills Masters Competition. It will take place over three days in the Ahoy Centre in Rotterdam as part of a major Careers Exhibition from the 14th to the 16th of March.

Christopher started his electrical apprenticeship with the ESB and is now an ESB-sponsored full-time student and is in the second year of his degree in Electrical Engineering in DIT.

He will represent Ireland in the World Skills Competition this July in Leipzig, Germany.

Colm Agnew, lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering Systems and National Expert for Industrial Control, will accompany Christopher to the competition and will assist in the judging.

He said “This competition will give Christopher some very valuable international experience ahead of the World Skills, and thanks are due to Mr. Tom Corrigan (Dean of Apprentice Education) and staff in the School for their support in facilitating this trip for him.

“Christopher will be flying the Irish, Donegal and DIT flags at this event and no doubt will do us proud!”
