GARDA OFFICERGARDAI are investigating the death of a man on a Co Donegal pier.

His body was located on a pier in Killybegs in the early hours of the morning.

It’s understood the dead man was from Norway and had been returning to a trawler when he slipped and fell.

Local people were in shock this evening after learning of the death.

Gardai do not suspect foul play in the incident but have launched an investigation on behalf of the coroner’s office.

Colleagues on the Norwegian vessel are said to be ‘distraught’ at the man’s death.

“This is a terrible tragedy,” said one local businessman tonight.

“It appears this young man had been in Killybegs for a few days and had been out on Saturday night in the town.

“It looks as if this was just a terrible accident.”
