GARDA OFFICERMORE THAN 40 people were arrested by Gardai in various incidents across Co Donegal over the St Patrick’s weekend – with a suspect detained for an attack in Falcarragh.

All the arrests related to public order offences, mainly in the Letterkenny and Bundoran areas.

However Gardai say public disorder was lower than in previous years.

Most of those held were detained for being drunk and/or starting fights late on Sat Patrick’s night on Sunday and into the early hours of the morning on Monday.

The most serious incident was an assault in Falcarragh which left 47-year-old Patrick McLaughlin fighting for his life at the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Gardai are today studying CCTV footage in their ongoing investigation into that attack.

A man in his 20s was being quizzed at Glenties Garda Station today in relation to the Falcarragh attack.
