Snow joke! A hardy member of the Four Masters Cycling Club takes part in the charity cycle

Serious head winds, temperatures no higher that one degree, and snow-filled roads only added to today’s Four Masters Blood Bike Charity Cycle.

Over 60 cyclists braved the elements this morning and rolled out of the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny to raise funds for North West Blood Services.

Leaving the Aura, the group headed towards Glenswilly and on to the Meenaroy climb where everyone took advantage of the strong tail wind up the mountain.

Continuing on into Fintown and right into Doochary the cyclists which were in small groups at this stage had to content with severe head winds as they climbed out of Doochary, onto the snow filled roads at the back to Glenveagh National Park. Reaching the summit of this long 4 mile climb, everyone had a spectacular view of Glenveagh Castle and lake in the distance.

Descending down into Glendowen everyone had to work hard as strong head winds turned this normally fast descent into a struggle for most, having to push hard to get to lower ground.

Back into civilisation at Glendowen, the cyclists got a bit of shelter in the trees, before passing Gartan Lake and on into Churchill and back to Letterkenny.

Four Masters CC would like to thank all the cyclists who took part today, the members of the Blood Bike group who done a superb job marshalling the roads, the caterers and the Aura Leisure Centre for the use of the facilities. Over €600.00 was raised today for this great cause.

Four Masters CC next Leisure event is The Knockalla Tour on April 14th, and more information on this event can be found on the club website or facebook.
