Our celebration of Easter begins with the Vigil. This wonderful liturgy draws all of our senses into a joyful celebration. Candle light breaks apart the darkness. With music, holy water and the word of God we proclaim that Jesus is risen from the dead! Mary Magdalen and the women come to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus – but he is not there( Mark 16:1-7). In his death Jesus comes to meet us at the furthest, deepest point of human suffering. The resurrection is not an afterthought. The resurrection, like the nativity is about God’s desire to be with us, it is about incarnation. Because of the resurrection we can have absolute confidence that God is with us always. Not even death can separate us from the love of God. God is at the heart of our humanity and our humanity is at the heart of God.

It is deeply significant that Easter is when adults who have been preparing to become part of the Catholic faith are baptised. We too are invited to renew our baptismal promises – and it is worth thinking about what we are committing ourselves to. We should not do this lightly. We have travelled the road from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday with Jesus. We have been with him in his suffering and death. In baptism we are invited to be with him in his new life. Baptism is our “Yes” to the resurrection and to the new beginning it offers. By renewing our baptismal promises we are saying “We have seen what this demands of us, we know that to live by faith is challenging. We realise that to say yes means allowing faith to shape our present and our future. We are prepared to stand with Jesus, so that through our lives he will be present and active in our homes, our communities and our world. We are saying yes to being the body of Christ with all the challenges that brings.”

–Having seen where Jesus’ commitment to God’s word took him – are you prepared to follow him?

–Consider your baptismal promises – what implications does it have for your life if you renew those promises?

–In the resurrection Jesus brings us new life. Where in your life, your relationships and the world around you do you experience that sense of new life, new possibilities, glimpses of hope, moments of delight? Give thanks!

For are hosting a fun day in the Community Centre on Monday 1st April between 2pm & 4pm.

Seeds of Faith

This Diocesan initiative is a resource to help families to pray and do things together, organised by our diocesan resource Worker. Many families find it helpful and it invites conversation regarding our faith. Please take one from the chapel this weekend.
