PETTIGO COMMEMORATIONLocal Republicans gathered at St. Agatha’s Church graveyard, Clar, Donegal Town on Easter Sunday Morning for a wreath laying ceremony at the grave of three IRA Volunteers killed at the Battle of Pettigo in 1922.

A spokesperson from the organising Committee, commented: “This annual wreath laying ceremony reflects the deep commitment of local Republican minded people for remembering our Patriot dead.

“This annual Easter ceremony is always an opportunity to reflect on the incredible sacrifices made by previous generations, to remember that in every generation over the past 200 years people have striven and in many cases given their lives to create an Ireland based on the principles of equality and justice.

“We are mindful that the struggle to create an Ireland at peace with itself, governed by itself and governed in the best interests of all, continues today”.

A wreath was laid on behalf of Sinn Fein and the 1916 Proclamation was read by Claire Thomas.
