Naomh Conaill 0-07 Four Masters 1-08
Emlyn Hughes got his competitive managerial term off to a flyer on Good Friday with a 4 point win away to Naomh Conaill.
A strong second half from the visitors was key as they held their hosts to 1 point, whilst registering 1-05 on their own scoreboard to take two valuable early league points.
Dara Gallagher (2), Conor Mc Daid and Conor Rooney exchanged points in the first 10 minutes to leave the sides on parity.
A Michael Doherty 45 pushed Four Masters into the lead but Gallagher again equalised from a free to level matters on 15 minutes.
The home side then took the upper hand and points from Brendan McDyre, Anthony Thompson and Martin Regan gave them a 3 point half-time lead at 6 points to 3.
Straight from the throw-in Four Masters created a goal chance but Sean O’Kennedy’s shot was saved on the line.
Michael Doherty did add 2 further points, one from a free and on 42 minutes Doherty was on hand to punch to the Naomh Conaill net to nudge the visitors into a 2 point lead. Four Masters were now dominating and points from Conor Rooney and Steven Keeney stretched the lead further.
Naomh Conaill were finding it difficult to break up the pitch and a Brendan McDyre free on 52 minutes was their first score since the half-time break. A Michael Doherty free was the final act in this deserved win for Four Masters.
