EVERYTHING IS ‘GRAND’ FOR BERNIE AFTER NATIONAL WIN!

A mum of one is celebrating after scooping a tidy sum on the Grand National because she “liked the names of the horses.”Horse Racing - The 2013 John Smith's Grand National - Grand National Day - Aintree Racecourse

Lucky Bernie O’Brien collected more than €1,000 for her €30 bet after picking the 1st, 3rd and 4th places horses in the race.

Bernie, from Killygordon, admits she knows nothing about horses.

“I just liked their names and I suppose it was a bit of luck. I couldn’t believe that all three of the horses finished so far up in the race.

“I only ever bet on the Irish and English Grand Nationals. I just liked the names of the horses but I would never allow myself to spend more than €5 each way on a bet.

“That would be to much like gambling and I’m certainly not a gambler,” laughed hotel worker Bernie.

Bernie picked Auroras (she got it at 80-1), Teaforthree (10-1) and Oscar Time (66-1) which were all placed.

Her weekend luck comes after she picked the winner of the recent Irish Grand National – Liberty Counsel which won at 50-1.

But Bernie, who works in Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey isn’t getting carried away by her luck.

“I won’t bet again until net year. I’ll do the lotto but that’s as far as I’ll go.

“I might even go on a little holiday with my winnings,” she said.
