Gardai are investigating a mystery attack on county councillor Ian McGarvey’s home in Ramelton.

Thugs attacked councillor McGarvey’s home at Moorefield just before 2am this morning.

Rocks were thrown through a number of windows and graffiti was daubed on the side of the wall.

Councillor McGarvey, 82, was in the house at the time but was unhurt.

Gardai are currently carrying out a full forensic examination of the scene.

It is believed Gardai do NOT suspect that Cllr McGarvey was the direct target of the attack.

Cllr McGarvey is the oldest councillor in Ireland and is hugely respected in local political circles.

A Garda spokesman confirmed there was an incident at Cllr McGarvey’s home but said they were not in a position to comment at present.
