The sign for the Burtonport Railway Walk was erected recently at a cost of €200 to the local people of the area.

But the signage was ripped form its post this week at Acres, Burtonport.

“It’s just so sad to watch something that is supported by 100s of community members and visitors alike, and which our community have collectively worked so hard on in terms of development and fundraising, get torn apart by mindless acts of thuggery,” said a spokesman.

The section of reclaimed railway track has been developed into a beautiful walkway. and extends from Burtonport to Meenbanad and is approx 6.5 miles / 10.46 km return.
