In the 14-15 years age category, second prize of €350 was won by 15-year-old Lilla Kardos, from Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny, for her portrait of actor James McAvoy, entitled ‘Looking Beyond’. No stranger to the competition, Lilla was a Special Merit Award winner in last year’s competition.

Other Donegal winners, both of whom won Special Merit Awards, are Jennifer Monahan (14), a pupil at Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town, for her work entitled ‘The Sirens are Screaming’, and Kieran Kelly (10), a pupil at Glenswilly National School, Letterkenny, for his work entitled ‘Dragon of the Rock’.

Prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony in Dublin next month when all of the 126 top prize-winners will be in attendance.

The competition, which attracted entries from each of the 32 counties, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.
