JUST CHAMPION: LAGAN HARPS

Lagan Harps ladies took part in a cross border 7 a side competition in Monaghan Utd’s Gortakeegan on Saturday.

The competition was run in conjunction with the Peace 3 programme run by the Cavan/Monaghan partnership. FAI chief John Delaney launched the competition three weeks previously.

Six teams from Northern Ireland took part with six teams from the Republic.

The teams were divided in to two sections with the two group winners playing for the cup. Lagan won their five group matches beating Mid Ulster 3-0, Ballyfermot 4-0, Kingscourt 5-0, Limavady 3-0 and Loughgall 3-0.

They faced the hosts Monaghan Utd in the final. Monaghan had won all their group matches as well. In a closely fought encounter the match was scoreless at fulltime.

Lagan had a lot of youngsters in the squad and they all showed up well. The organisers intend to make this an annual tournament, increasing the numbers to 24.

Lagan eventually came out on top 4-2 on penalties. The Lagan Harps squad was: Emma Duffy, Bernie Cunningham, Emer Bradley, Nadine Crawford, Saorla Mc Garrigle, Amy Boyd, Niamh Mc Glinchey, Nikita Burke, Eimear Mc Clafferty, Emma Horgan, Emma Mc Kinley, Caroline Gallagher, Zoe Mc Glynn.
