LETTERKENNY XTRA-VISION STORE ESCAPES AXE IN CUTBACKS

xtravisionThe Xtra-vision store in Letterkenny is to stay open as part of a deal announced this evening.

Eight stores in the Dublin area, one in Tipperary and 11 in the North will close with the loss of 120 jobs.

In a statement Luke Charleton of Ernst & Young, which is the official receiver for the chain, said the closures were regrettable but necessary due to “unsustainable trading losses resulting from a fall in revenue.”

The joint receivers said they would continue to seek a buyer for the stories left in the chain and were currently in discussion “with a number of interested parties.”

The statement said the stores being kept open were trading well and it took the decision to close those which were affecting the profitability in the group.

Last week the DVD rental chain, which has 152 outlets, went into receivership.
