Nurse Maximo Domens was killed while returning home having worked a night shift at a nursing  home in Laghey just outside Donegal Town.

Today friends of the 57 year old, who had worked at the nursing home for six years, said they are simply “heartbroken” at his death.

One nursing colleague at the Aras Mhic Shuibhne Nursing Home said they will find it hard to think they will never see him again.

“In all my time I have never met a more caring and kind man. The residents adored him as did the staff. Today we are heartbroken.

“To think that little wave this morning was to be our last. It was a privilege to have worked with Max and I have only good memories of him. God had bigger plans for this gentle gentleman. RIP our dear friend and karaoke king,” said one friend.

Max was killed when his car was in collision with an Expressway Bus at Barnesmore Gap just before 8.30am.

He was killed instantly and pronounce dead at the scene.

Max had just completed a shift at the nursing home and was making his way home to Stranorlar.

Gardai are still appealing for witnesses to the crash.
