LIFESTYLE: AVOID THE GROUCHO LOOK AND FIND THE PERFECT BROW

image copy 4We have read many times that good eyebrows can make you look fresh, younger and that a good shaped brow is like having an instant face lift.

Over the years I have left any number of beauty salons with a Groucho Marx look and spent the evening with a toothbrush scrubbing out too-dark a tint and leaving two, raw, angry strips on my forehead.

As the man himself said: “I never forget a face but in your case, I’ll be glad to make an exception.” Yes, my thoughts exactly after a brow treatment.

I’ve committed every beauty no-no when it comes to attempts at defining my brows including over plucking, plucking above the brow and home waxing. I find the whole eye-brow shape quest really addictive. I admit it, I have brow envy.

But I’m stepping away from the tweezers and the DIY approach and exploring other options.

Now we have HD Brows, threading, brow gels and powders and so many products to enhance, shape and define.

However, just because strong brows are “in” doesn’t mean they will suit everyone’s face shape.

It is important to choose the shape of your eyebrows according to your features.

HD Brows is a seven step eyebrow shaping treatment that focuses on design and involves techniques including, tinting, waxing and threading. It can dramatically transform even the most sparse and misshapen brows.

I would advise looking at portfolios in salons to get an idea of what you would like and if it will suit your face shape.

Prices in beauty salons across the county start at €30.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to this, eyebrow threading has also grown increasingly popular and prices can start from upwards of €10.

Threading, an alternative to waxing or plucking, uses cotton thread to shape and groom the eyebrows.

Have a look at a YouTube clip of this ancient art of hair removal if you want to see exactly how it is done.

Also, any beauty therapist worth her salt will have a chat with you before she styles your brows. Don’t be afraid to ask if a brow gel or palette will work better than a tint. Remember, beware the “Scouse Brow” look.
