MAGHERAGALLONA FAMILY day out at a west Donegal beach turned to horror when they found what appears to be human remains.

Gardai in Bunbeg are investigating the discovery of part of a human leg on the beach at Magheragallon at approximately 2.30pm on Sunday.

The scene has been examined, the remains have been removed for examination and the coroner has been notified.

It is understood the remains were found by people enjoying the summer weather at the beach.

The scene where the remains were found was sealed off as an investigation got underway.

It’s understood specialist forensic scientists are being called in to help unravel the mystery.

“These bones may have been there for a considerable period of time,” said one source.

“It could be the remains of someone washed ashore.”
