Dublin City Marathon

Over twenty athletes from the club and region will compete in next Monday’s Dublin City Marathon. All have prepared with a purpose, under the coaching guidance of Paddy Donoghue, all have specific completion goals/times, many are completing the 26miles plus distance for various charities. All are to be congratulated and wished every success on attempting to complete the challenge of the marathon.

Club Training – the numbers attending club group training sessions at the moment is most encouraging. Many members have commented on the great ‘buzz and fun’ experienced at these sessions and of the safe and user friendly facilities of the ‘floodlite track’ and well equipped sportshall/gymnasium.

On Tues evening last -7pm start – Kevin Mc Glynn’s fit4life group in… Donegal Town had an attendance of over 30 complete a session that included a dynamic warm up; core and circuit training plus a 30 aerobic run. Earlier on Tues evening 4-5.30pm the AVS School session led by Michelle Harvey had an equally impressive attendance

On Thursday evening 5.45 -7pm the Primary schools weekly ‘Little Athletics ‘ programme of agility, balance, co-ordination, running jumping and throwing games and led by Paul O’Gara/David Doherty/Ann McGowan/Jackie Harvey had over 90 in attendance. Also on Thurs. evening the Senior training group i.e. Secondary school age group and upwards had over 30 in attendance under the lead of Richard McCarthy/Eamon Harvey. They were joined on the final 40mins of the session by over 20 of Kevin McGlynn’s fit4life group for an excellent S&C circuit session which included stations of resistance running -using pullies ,medicine ball work, 4 core/plank exercises, skipping, agility, bench dips/step ups/ squats and running. To find approx. 60 adults involved and working hard in a well organised and structured session was a tribute to the clubs coaching structure.

On Saturday morning Paddy Donoghues Dublin City Marathon group trained at 8.30am from the Church Car Park in Bundoran while Kevin Mc Glynn’s Donegal Town fit4life group trained at 8am. On Sunday morning over Senior athletes attended the weekly Track and Field session at club HQ in Donegal Town. New members are welcome to join all groups
