Donegal fans attending this Sunday’s Ulster semi final in Cavan are being asked to ‘dig deep for Sam‘.
Fans entering Breffni Park will notice a bucket collection being taken up. Proceeds are in aid of a young Fermanagh toddler who is battling a rare form of cancer.
The collection is part of the ‘Together For Sam’ charity which has been set up for 23 month old Sam Bradley from Enniskillen.
Earlier this year Sam was diagnosed with high risk Neuroblastoma. This is a cancer that presents in less than 15 people per year across Ireland. Sam has a particularly aggressive form of the cancer and as such is in the high risk category.
Sam is currently in stage two of a six phrase year long treatment plan of chemotherapy and is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children.
Sam has been remarkable throughout his treatment and his resilience and cheerful positive attitude is an inspiration to all close to this brave little boy.
There is a possibility that some of Sam’s treatment may have to take place outside Ireland, and to this end Sam’s family and friends are trying to raise the necessary funds for Sam’s ongong care and any treatment that may have to take place abroad.
All remaining proceeds will be split between the Children’s Haematology unit at the Royal and Irish cancer charities.
Sam’s dad Colm, a former Fermanagh player urged fans to donate to Together for Sam this Sunday.
Colm said, “We have been amazed by the generosity that has been shown to us since Sam was diagnosed. The GAA community has rallied around us and helped us cope during this difficult time. We are determined to do everything we can to help Sam win his battle and we thank everyone for the kindness shown to our family.”
So remember when you see the collectors with their buckets outside the big game on Sunday, spare a thought and a donation by digging deep for Sam.
