BROADCAST BOSSES CONFIRM THEY ARE ALLOWING DONEGAL MAN’S BID FOR HIGHLAND RADIO LICENSE

highlandradioIRELAND’S broadcasting authorities have confirmed that they are allowing an open competition for the next 10-year license to broadcast services in North Donegal.

It means millionaire Inishowen businessman Paddy Simpson will be allowed to bid for the license currently held by Highland Radio.

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) says it is seeking applications for broadcasting services covering North Donegal.

Mr Simpson owns a number of diverse businesses north and south of the Border including a hotel in Belfast and a cinema complex and bowling alley on Derry’s Buncrana Road.

He’s a native of Carndonagh and owns one of the buildings currently rented by the BBC in Belfast.

If he were to secure the license, it would see it being held again in local hands.

Ironically Highland’s bid to keep the franchise is still listed on the BAI’s website as having come from Charlie Collins who quit the station earlier this month.
