999319_542850015771183_2041645274_nBY PATSY McGONAGLE: The news that two of Finn Valley’s outstanding young athletes John Kelly and Fellan McGuigan have been selected for the World Youth Track & Field Championships in Donensk,Ukraine next month has been widely welcomed.

Both have had excellent seasons and more importantly have improved year on year through the age range to their present exciting position as world class in their age under 18 division.

John has been over 18m on a number of occasions in the shot and is currently in great form while Fellan has got out to a mind boggling 71m plus in the hammer.

We wish both well.

Elsewhere Dempsey has once again improved the county hammer record with a pb 63-60m mark in England and returns to have another shot at the 66m he needs for European Q in the national under 23 in Tullamore Sunday.

A number of Valley athletes compete in the meet which also has the junior programme included where Sarah Collins goes in the 5k.

Earlier Tuesday Tori Pena won the pole vault in the Belfast international at M P track clearing 4-30m, Mark Hoy won the B 800m in a pb 1.52 odd with AAron Mc Glynn recording a pb 800 m in the U 15 section 2.08 . Returning to good form after injury.
