minors1County Minor Championship Preliminary Round – Naomh Conaill 0-5 v Naomh Muire 1-11

REPORT FROM NAOMH MUIRE: Naomh Muire Minors put in a good solid and physical performance away to Naomh Conaill in Glenties this evening to advance to a 1st round tie with Dungloe which will be played next week.

Following a draw in the first match in the Banks last week where Naomh Conaill could be considered unlucky not to have left with a win…..Naomh Muire were in no mood for anything other than a win tonight and they dominated the match in all departments in a park that few teams leave without a battle and where the home record at this level is strong.

Our young lads were always in control and led by 9 points at HT with the aid of a fair breeze.

The second half which expected Naomh Conaill to go all out to recover their deficit saw Naomh Muire’s workrate and fitness come into play and they were able to control long passages of play even if scores didn’t come.

The established and older lads such as Patrick Rodgers, Jack O’Brien, James Ferry, Patrick Gillespie, Hugh the Yank, Jamie Boyle and Sean McCafferty, Shaun Burns, Adam O’Brien played as leaders tonight while there were some outstanding shifts put in by young lads who have two more years at this level like Conor White, Aidan Gillespie, Jack Boyle grew as the game went on.

Darren Sweeney and Cameron Harley won the so called dirty ball and important possession at crucial times while the solid handling and effective kick outs of young Gerrard Boyle was the launch of many attacks. All subs used came on and make really strong contributions . This was a great win but only a preliminary round and the bigger challenge of Dungloe now awaits the Minors next week. Great to see a big crowd travelling tonight outnumbering the home support.
