This is the Churchill man whose last movements Gardai want to trace.

The late Kieran Callaghan

Gardai in Letterkenny this afternoon issued an appeal for witnesses who may have seen Kieran Callaghan alive last weekend.

The 50 year old father of four was found dead at his home in Roshin, Churchill at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

At first it was thought he died of natural causes but the scene was preserved for an investigation.

However an examination on the body by State Pathologist Marie Cassidy forced Gardai to upgrade the death to being ‘suspicious.”

Inspector Michael Harrison told reporters today that they are very anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Callaghan after he was last spotted in Churchill at about 6pm last Friday.

Accompanied by Letterkenny-based Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan, Inspector Harrison said he could not answer questions on the death for operations reason.

Inspector Michael Harrison told reporters they are very anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Callaghan after he was last spotted in Churchill at about 6pm last Friday.

“For operational reasons we are not releasing the details of the post mortem.

“The reason we are here is to launch a media appeal for witnesses. We are appealing to anyone who may have met, seen or spoken to Kieran Callaghan between the 4th and the 8th of July to make contact with us.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around his home at Rosheen in Churchill to contact us at Milford Garda station,” he said.

The father-of-four was a part-time farmer who also worked at Glenveagh National Park.

He was 5’10”, of thin build and had grey hair as our picture shows.

It is understood Mr Callaghan may have suffered a head injury before he was found dead at his home.

Further tests are to be carried out on the body.
