Desecration: The damage done at An Grianan Fort
THESE were the shocking scenes which greeted gardai when they went to investigate a party inside An Grianan Fort at the weekend.
Garda Eddie Doherty told a court in Letterkenny today of his disgust when he found beer cans, broken bottles and stones ripped from the walls from the 3,000-year-old fort in Burt.
Human excrement was smeared on paths leading to the site – and someone had even defecated in a holy well beside the fort.
Two Derry men have admitted being among more than 40 people who were at the party which began on Friday night and was still going on when tourists “from all over the world”.
William Sweeney and Ramond McCormick, both from Derry, admitted criminal damage when they appeared in court today.
Judge Paul Kelly described the pair as ‘louts’ and remanded them in custody.
