A statement issued on behalf of the wife of singer Daniel O’Donnell said the couple are “hopeful of a full recovery.”

The couple have appealed for privacy at this time.

Majella, 52, who is originally from Tipperary, met Daniel at her parent’s bar in Tenerife.

The couple began to date and married in a lavish ceremony in Kincasslagh in 2002.

Majella, who has two grown-up children from a previous relationship, has spoken open about her ongoing battle with depression.

Friends of the star and his wife have rallied around the couple.

Daniel, who spends much of his time abroad, was at home recently to help his mother Julia to celebrate her 94th birthday.

He is also expected to be around his native Donegal in the coming days to take part in the Mary from Dungloe Festival.
