CONTRACTORS are working around the clock to sandbag a stream which caused the flooding at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Met Eireann says torrential downpours are on the way later today and tomorrow.

The organisation has issued a flood warning. However the BBC doesn’t believe Donegal will get the predicted rainfall until tomorrow.

Workmen however are getting prepared.

They worked all day yesterday filling sandbags and dredging the stream.

“We need to make sure if we get another thunder storm like the one last Friday that there is no repeat of the flooding,” one worker told Donegal Daily.

“A lot of debris has been removed but we are not taking any chances.

“We’re putting sandbags along the stream to prevent another deluge heading down towards the hospital.”

Met Eireann says the thunder storms will reach Donegal this evening.

They are already bringing heavy downpours to the south and south-west of Ireland.

All forecasters agree that Thursday will be a wash-out in Donegal.

“Thursday will be wet with spells of heavy or thundery rain in many areas and a risk of flooding, especially in the north west,” says Met Eireann.
