Teresa Doherty chair of the Malin Head Heritage group at the launch of the third edition of their heritage newsletter has announced Malin Head’s upcoming Gathering event. The booklet contains poetry and local history and is reasonably priced at 2 euro, these magazines make lovely gifts for family living abroad.
The Committee are currently working hard on their 2013 Gathering Event for Malin Head. Teresa (Mullin) Doherty, chair of the committee stated:
“We are celebrating the Irish Cottage at Bree, Malin Head, it was a hive of activity during the 1970’s for locals and visitors alike. Much of the work and success is due to the inspiration of Fr John Doherty, and he has confirmed that he will attend our Gathering,” said Teresa
“We especially would like all those members of Malin Head Youth Club and anyone who visited, worked or baked for the Irish Cottage in Bree to come along.”
The Committee are interested if anyone has any of the craftwork that was created in the cottage- for example there were baskets, lamps and boxes decorated with shells. If you have any items, the committee would love to display them for the day.
“Elaine McDaid and Annie Kelly of the Heritage Committee have been very busy working to create a lovely social event” noted Doherty.
“We will be having a display of local historical artifacts, our work over the past year mapping the local homesteads over the 1901-1911 era.”
Other artefacts on display will include a series of Mesolithic flints found in the local area which have been dated to 5,000 years of age, indicating Malin Head was home to people in prehistoric times.
So please come along to the hall from 4 to 7pm on Saturday 10th of August and reunite with old friends and give Fr. John Doherty a hearty Malin Head welcome back. For more info please follow events on malin headcommunity facebook page or email malinheadcommunity@hotmail or ring the office at 0749370478- daily between 9:30- 2:00 pm
