This week was special in Letterkenny Golf Club Ladies Club as there were two competitions that are close to our hearts, Little Angels and Breast Care.

Tuesday saw a large number of ladies enter the Little Angels Open Competition, kindly sponsored by Phil and John Murray and their family. Best 36 handicapper was Breid McLaughlin, Tracy Spence had the only 2, Front 9 Maureen Shanahan (21 points), Back 9 Anne Flannery (20 points), 4th was Betty Boal from Portsalon (35 points), 3rd was Angela Kilgallen (35 points BOT), Gross was Tracy Spence (24 gross points), 2nd was Marian O’Sullivan (36 points) but the winner with a tremendous 43 points was our Lady Captain, Sandra McMonagle.

Thursday came but, unfortunately, so did the rain so there were not too many braving the dreadful afternoon weather for the Breast Care competition, kindly sponsored by Maureen Shanahan, Bernie Dunleavy and Grainne Hines. In 3rd place was Bridie Gildea (30 points), 2nd was Peggy Forde (31 points) and in first place was Marian O’Sullivan (32 points). Congratulations to all this week’s prizewinners and thanks to our loyal sponsors.

After the Breast Care Competition the tension was mounting in the clubhouse. The time had come for the draw for Tuesday’s first day of Lady Captain’s competition. 66 ladies were drawn, all vying to win the biggest accolade of the golfing year for our Ladies Club. After Tuesday’s play, a draw will be done for Saturday’s play excluding the top 15 from Tuesday – they will go out to play last, thus ensuring an exciting finish and a hard fought prize for the eventual winner.

Best wishes to Lady Captain Sandra for her celebrations and good luck to all the competitors in the various competitions throughout the week.
