ORGANISED gangs of shoplifters have targeted County Donegal.
Business owners and their staff are being warned that the criminal gangs arrived in the county earlier this week.
Most of them are in Letterkenny and have swarmed on businesses in the busy retail park area of the town in recent days.
Gardai have made a number of arrests and recovered goods for shop owners.
However we understand this is just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ and more members of the gang – which is from outside Donegal – will be ‘operating’ again in Letterkenny today.
“They are swarming around the place,” said one local business owner who contacted Donegal Daily.
“I would advise my colleagues and their staff to be extremely cautious over the weekend and again next week.
“Staff need to be more alert.”
He said shoplifting in the town is ‘fairly rare’ but that it has ‘mushroomed in the past few days.’
The business owner added: “I just wanted to make sure that business owners are aware that this is happening. I know most of them are up to speed already and some items have been recovered and arrests made.”
The alert comes just 48 hours after a warning that members of the same gang are pickpocketing shoppers in the town.
