The Diamond in Ballyare was host to 3 top-class cycle races on Friday evening.Road cyclists racing at Tour de France (low section, low angle view)

The dry evening ensured a fast and furious pace for the 48 riders on the flat fast coarse.

In the A race a 3 man breakaway of Kevin Holian, Mark McClure and Dean Henderson meant the race would be between these 3 riders , who were working hard to stay clear of the chasing pack that included Errigal riders Peter McBride and Jordan McGinley.

In the end McClure just edged the sprint to win, with Holian 2nd and Dean Henderson 3rd.

The B race had a larger field of riders. Some attacks on laps 2 and 3 came to nothing and this race didn’t split and so came down to a big bunch sprint, a lot of jostling for position was happening before the pace really hotted up for the sprint.

Warren Blackburn SLcc,Tommy Doherty Four Masters and Eugene Mc Gettigan Errigal cc,powered to the top 3 positions respectively. Also Ciara Doogan, fresh from competing in the youth Olympics and the 2nd Errigal international youth tour had a good race , getting up for the sprint finish for first lady home.

The committee would like to extend a special thanks to all the marshals and lead cars who provided excellent safety for the cyclists.
