In a freak run of play, and after some serious preparation, Pat McNulty claimed his first victory of the season by winning the Ferguson cup on Sunday 4th, with a very impressive net 55, followed closely by Patsy Gallagher, another player in a nice run of form.GOLF LOGO

The race for Golfer of the Year is now wide open, and all to play for.

Next action in Otway is Sunday 18th, with the Franklin cup, a members single stableford competition.

On Wednesday 7th, the inaugural event of the Rathmullan Regatta Gathering Golf Classic was held at Otway, organised by Father Martin Collum and Patricia McAteer, with the main sponsor McCormick’s chemist, Milford.

In glorious sunshine, the event attracted teams from near and far, but the winners were local team of father and son Dan and Mark Canning, along with Shaun Sweeney and Thomas Merritt. In second place was Damian Gallagher’s team, with Martin Duffy’s team in third.

The front nine was won by Fr Martin Collum’s team, and the back nine to the team of club Captain Pat Kelly. Nearest the pin for the men went to Shaun Duffy, and lady Captain Mary Hassan for the ladies.

Fr Martin also received a prize for an unusual chip in…… to a golf bag beside the third green. Despite the excellence of the shot, Fr Martin did not add to his team’s scoring on the hole, as he failed to retrieve his ball !
