Lady Captain Sandra McMonagle with Marian O’Sullivan and Cynthia Fuery, some of the prizewinners in the August Medal.

Following the very successful Lady Captain’s week of celebrations we had a very busy week with the August Medal and Mr. President’s Prize to Ladies.

We commenced with the August Medal, kindly sponsored by Mary Ellen McNulty, Jackie Ireland, Marian Keating and Catherine Cooke Harkin.

The medal competition is a stroke play competition, either loved or hated by the members and forms the major part of the annual Player of the Year Competition.

Cynthia Fuery achieved a great 76 BOT, Marian O’Sullivan a 75, but the winner, with a wonderful 68 nett, was Bridget McClafferty. We then advanced to the final ‘major’ of our golfing year, Mr. President’s Prize to the Ladies.

The chosen format was V Par which can cause a little confusion but is an interesting form of scoring. Mr. President had delight in announcing the following results:

Senior – Nellie McHugh (-1); Non Qualifier – Anna Kennedy; Front 9 Catherine Cooke Harkin (+1 BOT); Back 9 Anne Flannery (+2); 3rd – Maura Cavanagh (+1); Gross – Angela Bradley; 2nd – Veronica McAteer (+1) and the winner on +2 was Bridie Gildea. Winners of the Pre Presidents Mixed Competition were Eamonn O’Carroll and, in form, Bridie Gildea, second was Lester Speer and Triona Daly and third was Paul Bryan and Nuala McGarrigle. Well done to all this week’s prizewinners.

The next big event for the ladies is the Ladies and Gents Classic being held on Friday 30th August, teams of four (any combination) costs €80. Please consider entering a team and booking your preferred time online. The Classic is followed immediately by Lady Captain’s outing to Ballyliffin on Saturday 31st and BB+ Dinner in Ballyliffin Lodge.
